Jul 20, 2019: Wins

It’s a Saturday night, and Carole’s cousin Daniel has come over to visit. That can only mean one thing – games!

And, even more brilliantly, wins by me.

I think that tonight has been my best performance in ages. But when I come last in stuff, I really do come last. So very, very last.

But I was victorious at Dungeon Mayhem. I really like that game. It’s fun, it’s quick and it’s brutal. And when you play it well and the cards are in your favour it’s a delight. Which is was. Even with a stupid “first to two” rule, I still smashed it out of the park.

Photosynthesis, on the other hand, where you grow trees and throw shade (hopefully on other players) was not as successful. I was hopeless at it. I think I went all in too quickly at the beginning and didn’t really leave myself in any sort of position in the remaining two thirds of the game. But I’ll learn it – it was the first time playing – and then I’ll probably still lose. But hey ho.

I managed to regain a bit of shine with Kingdom Builder though. Won one, lost one. Both by pretty decent amounts. I have never been so confident of a win in my life with that game. I was decisive. I was tactical. I was a master of my small wooden houses.

And then buoyed by that success just pissed it all away on the “do you really have to go to bed just yet?” second attempt.

Carole’s running a 10K tomorrow. In Nottingham. She should have probably been in bed ages ago. And yet there she was tickling the underside of 11pm playing board games.

Daniel’s staying another night, so it looks like there may well be more nonsense like this tomorrow evening. We’ll have to see how it all pans out.

Obviously if I start losing, he’ll have to go…
