I went in to work early so that I could nip across the road and have a look at our new building now that the rooms have been started.
As it turns out, my early arrival at work was taken up by a technical fault which had wiped out half of the electrical stuff in the rooms. I spent an hour – the hour I’d planned on for going across the road – on the floor trying to unravel wires and work out why things weren’t working. Because when the rooms were set up, nothing was ever labelled and it’s – as my dad would have a said – an absolute bunch of bastards down down there. Luckily, once I started moving things about all I needed to do was follow the fizzing and cracking of a dubiously loose connection and hope that I didn’t die in the process.
I did not die in the process.
And then my team was late, and then they dramatically broke a prop. But I still made it across the road to look at the rooms…
And by rooms I mean, my room.
Dun dun duuuuuun.
I mean, it’s just wooden frame walls at the moment but it’s all becoming scarily real and I’ve totally not having any sort of panic about the whole thing not being good enough or being totally unprepared for anything that’s got to go in there.
On the flip side, though, some of the ideas I have come up with have been taken on board with great gusto and the electronics should be bloody amazing. Hopefully.
I mean, it also means that anything could break at the drop of a hat. But otherwise it’s going to be a flashing light, turning key and who knows what else spectacular of epic proportions. Hopefully.
There’s a lot of work to do, though. I think I’m going to be going in quite a bit to help out where I can with cutting wood and the like. There’s a lot to do. It’s ridiculously exciting. And overwhelming. And terrifying.
Did I mention that bit?
I’m now on a hunt through online shopping things for a number of items that I have thought of for the room, and a very specific idea for a cupboard that I’d like us to get to tantalise and tease people with the stuff inside that they just can’t get at…
It’s going to be a good six weeks or so before the room is ready but there’s a lot to do between now and then…
It’s going to be fun!
