We watched John Wick 2 last night. We fancied watching a film, and Carole’s go-to word for film preference is “action”. So we did action. And we paid for it. Because it wasn’t on anything streamy. It was, just as a side note, when we didn’t want to watch it. But as soon as we did, it wasn’t.
Here’s my hot take on it. It’s alright, but it’s not a patch on the first one. Are you even allowed to say that? It’s sacrilege to speak ill of a John Wick film as far as I know, but there you have it. John Wick 2 is alright. Just alright. The first one is brilliant.
As a result of watching that yesterday, the spectre of the third looms over us. The third, I have to say, looks a let better than the second one just based on the trailer alone. Although who can believe or trust trailers these days anyway because they either draw you in by showing you half the film and, in some cases, the end of the film (I’m definitely looking at you, Volcano) or they have a load of stuff that isn’t actually in the released version of the film but that you saw and thought, “Oh, I can’t wait to see that on the big screen….” and then it isn’t there. But you don’t realise until the end. And then you’re sad.
So we’ve been trying to find a spot to watch Wick the third today.
We managed to squeeze it in around Carole’s studying and both of our needs to nap. I’m not saying we were tired, but as soon as it finished Carole went to bed and that was at about 8pm. And then I fell asleep on the couch not long after, so yeah even the white hot adrenaline ride that was John Wick 3 couldn’t keep us from the need for sleep.
Bloody hell we were knackered. For reasons neither of us can fathom. At all.
Anyway, my hot take on John Wick 3.
Waaaaay better than the second one. Waaaaay better. Just what I wanted. Probably still not as good as the first one, though, but by now you know the formula so it’s not necessarily as eye-catching as it was at the start. Apart from that one guy who gets his eye caught on a knife, maybe. But yeah, it’s better than the second for sure, so I’m glad we dedicated this weekend, unintentionally, as a Wickend.
I guess the fourth one could be quite interesting. But by the law of odds and evens it won’t be a good one. But we’ll probably still watch it, just way behind the curve like a cool kid.
